Are You Ready to be an Internet Entrepreneur?

by Vernita Sherman on June 7, 2010

Do you want to start an internet business or are you really looking for an internet job?
The reason why I ask is because a lot of people wait until they are in a lot of debt and then all of a sudden they want to start an internet based business. If you’re only using the internet to get out of debt, then you’re really not ready to become an online business entrepreneur.

You may not be as bad as people looking for the next “get rich quick” scheme, but you’re almost as bad because all you have is a job mentality. People who are just looking for a way to pay off debt, are not going to invest the time and money that it takes to actually start an online business. You see, becoming an internet entrepreneur is the same as starting a business offline – you have to have some money and you have to have time to invest into your business. If you’re not willing to sacrifice time and money, then starting an online business is not for you.

To become an internet entrepreneur you have to have the passion…

It takes more than just wanting to take care of a short term financial set back. When people decide that they want to own a franchise like Mcdonalds, for example, they don’t make that decision based off of being in debt – 9 times out of 10 they can’t even afford to get into the business because they don’t have enough start up capital. So they obviously have other reasons for buying into that franchise.

So the question is, are you looking for a job on the internet or are you looking to start a business on the internet? There’s a difference. Sure you can find a job online, such as becoming a virtual assistant or doing freelance work for others – this is a perfect avenue to take to make quick money using the internet.

If instead you want long term financial freedom, not worrying about income caps, having the ability to make money while sleeping or while on vacation, have the passion and desire to help others, understand that starting an online business takes time and money (however much less money than starting a traditional business), then starting an online business is for you.

Keep in mind that money should be invested on both your education and marketing…

Everyone needs to have a monthly marketing budget. Don’t think that you can do this without spending any money at all. I know you hear about people doing things online for free; and yes, there are internet marketing strategies that you can utilize that won’t cost you any money. Some are excellent and they are 100% free…

But…

You better understand that if you are going to take the free route, you must have a lot of time on your hands because where you don’t spend money you will spend time (and vice versa). The best thing to do is balance out time and money spent on your business. Are you ready for that? If you don’t have the time nor the money, then you won’t have a successful business, period!
